Single Rose
Norma has been sketching and drawing since her teenage years.  Formal art lessons with live models, plaster cast models, for 2 years gave her the command of putting people in a lot of her paintings.  Two more years of night classes in oil, watercolour classes at Ottawa Technical School after finishing Glebe enhanced her life-long quest for art in all its glories.  Norma taught for the City of Ottawa Recreation Department, Renfrew and Carleton Boards of Education (night classes), at her Artworks Studio in Fitzroy, built in 1993, and 12 years with Kiwanis (Carlingwood Seniors).

Being a 'people person' in the art field, she enjoys every aspect of art and fellow artists.  Red and Blue ribbons have been won, "People's Choice Awards" and being juried into a Queen's Park show through Valley Arts Council mean a lot to her, but none so rewarding as a young student saying "Gee, Mrs. Dixon, it's with your help that I won one of the prizes at the Carp Fair."

Norma conducted a one week workshop in Barry's Bay, twice had one-person shows at Arteca Gallery, March Road, and volunteers her 'happy painting' attitude to this day in many ways.  Her recent work 'Slam Dunk' now graces the Valley Room at CHEO's Ronald MacDonald House, while her watercolour of the Gillies Building is now in the new Xray wing of the Arnprior Hospital.  Being featured on the cover of the HUMM newspaper's April 2004 issue was a very joyful occasion. Norma is presently doing portraits of people, homes and cottages by commission, clayboard carvings, glass paintings and other challenging avenues of art. Her first published 164 peotry/prose book called "Poetry Now and Then" just released in 2007. Award winning photography runs a close second to her art endeavours.
