Lu Jonescu studied various mediums at the Ottawa School of Art before settling on her medium of choice, watercolours, in which she is mainly self-taught. She has enhanced her training in watercolour through a variety of workshops with well-known artists from the United States, including Zoltan Zabo, Barbara Nechis, and Tony Couch. Though watercolour is her focus, Lu also works in acrylic, oils, clay modeling and monoprints.

Lu exhibits with the Ottawa Art Association, the Nepean Fine Arts League, the Ottawa Watercolour Society (elected Fellow, 1985), the Kanata Civic Art League, and Art Lending. Lu has had a number of exhibitions; both solo and juried group shows, nationally as well as internationally. Such shows include the Kidney Foundation International Art Festival, "Life and Languages", and the Ottawa Little Theatre Gallery.

Avid collectors easily recognize Lu's work. More interested in conveying a mood in her work than by fine detail, she sees each painting as a mere moment in time caught on the edge of definition and dissolve. Her distinctive style has won her numerous awards.
