Hanna Maria MacNaughtan has an urgent need to paint! A self-taught artist, Hanna began her creative journey in the fall of 2001.   Her love for people and nature is evident in her work.   Although artistic expression has become an important part of her life she also finds working as a Registered Nurse to be equally essential to her wellbeing and is in fact, an inspiration for much of her artwork. “As a Registered Nurse, I feel privileged to be continually reminded of the strength of the human spirit as well as the weakness of the flesh and bone.   It is this perpetual recognition of the frailty of our lives that has led me to discover the importance of nurturing my own creative spirit.   I have found my paintings to be a wonderful way of showing my appreciation for the simple pleasures and beauty in this world that I strive to keep a priority.   Whether it is a portrait of a person or a landscape of a meadow, I endeavor to capture and preserve a precious fleeting moment of time that may otherwise be forgotten.” Hanna’s approach to each piece is varied.   At times the subject is captured with fine detail and at other times, depending on her disposition, the subject may be portrayed in an impressionistic style.    Not being rigid in predetermined ideas or techniques allows Hanna freedom to let each piece evolve in its own unique way.    Working in various mediums allows for continual wisdom and growth in capturing the essence of her subjects. “The Further I go, the sorrier I am about how little I know: it is this that bothers me the most.”   (Claude Monet)   The artist’s home gallery is located in Kemptville Ontario where she lives with her husband and three children.   You may view/purchase her art by contacting the artist for an appointment at her home gallery.
